Ontario govt orders to freeze donations against Freedom Convoy: Bitcoin adoption

The Ontario government ordered to freeze of millions of funds received from crowdfunding platforms. While Crypto fundraising raising platforms are out of censorship.

In the present time, many people are protesting against the government in Canada because of the Covid-19 provisions and strict rules like mandating vaccines and masks to the citizens. Many fundraising platforms are also supporting these protestors to fight against the unpleasant rules of government authorities. 

The Superior Court granted the request of the Ontario Provincial government in Canada to freeze the funds of millions of dollars in donations on the “GiveSendGo”  and “Adopt-a-Trucker” platform from reaching the Freedom Convoy protesters.

At present, Freedom Convoy 2022” and “Adopt-a-Trucker” raised around $8.4 million and $686,000 respectively. 

Ian Miles Cheong, the writer at The Post Millennial, noted that such situations are better for Bitcoin users and if they want to stop Bitcoin then they need to bring a ban on cryptocurrencies.

One of the proponents of the fundraising platform, Benjamin Dichter, raised around 21 Bitcoins to support protestors. 

OpenNode, a Bitcoin payment processor platform, last year stated that Bitcoin payment is a better solution for people, who are restricted from using traditional payment systems.

“One of the benefits of Bitcoin is its censorship resistance. Without any central authority to dictate who can and can’t use Bitcoin, it has proven to be the currency of choice for many individuals and organizations who have been left out of traditional payment methods.”

OpenNode also noted that accepting donations in Bitcoin will help to more adoption of Bitcoin because donors and receivers will come to know about its potential.

GiveSendGo tweeted that the Ontario government has no idea how its US-based platform is managing funds and also assured that funds will go to the Protestors directly.
